This one re-surfaced in the early 70's but it had been around, and sold, as
The Tipsters Prize earlier.

It has the element ' longer on one aspect' as a selection clause.

In the good ole days The Australian had 10 tipsters, The Age had 16, The
Courier Mail had 8 of their own, then a summary of 8 other papers, The
Hobart had a similar list. Only The Age in Melbourne kept a record of their
win/loss (so far as I know)

This one required you to choose your tipster for racing at Canterbury. Back
then you had to be on course to make it work.

(a) Record the 3 tips for each race. These days there are 4
(b) 2 minutes before the start look for horses showing more than $3 win or
place.
(c) The selection is the tipped horse which is longest in price (at the 2
minute mark?) provided it is more than $3 (place)
(d) The subsidiary selection is the runner 'longer on one aspect' than the
first choice. So this pick would be a runner that is longer in price for the
win, or the place. It does not have to be a tipsters selection. It is the
runner with the next bigger dividend, either win or place.

Today:
R1 insufficient runners
R2 as above
R3 5 unplaced 8 2nd 7.40
R4 3 unplaced 8 won 15.80/4.20
R5 1 3rd 3.00 7 2nd 2.00
R6 9 unplaced 10 3rd 4.70
R7 no selections
R8 no selections

Does it work elsewhere (other than Canterbury?) Yes it does

Quirindi Cup
R7 1 2nd 5.30, 10 3rd 7.90
Showcase Sprint
R6 12,1, loss
R5 1 2nd 4.60 2 loss
Wodonga
R8 1 unp,5 2nd 5.80
Moonee Valley
R8 9 unp 8 3rd 3.30
R6 8 3rd 4.10 9 unp
R5 8 unp 11 3rd 3.90

SUMMARY:
Choose your tipster
Ascertain which numbers they choose are paying $3 place with 2 minutes to
start
Back the runner chosen by the tipster if it is paying $3 place or more
Back the next runner if it is 'longer on one aspect'. It means longer price
to win, or longer price to place, choose that one
Back them to place

Cheers

Tony
