Jumping Through Hoops - a system

Clif Cary's Racing Review was (typically) a 12 page book produced every week
by Clif and Racetrack magazine's Arthur Thorn (t/as Cary Thorn Enterprises).

The book was the up to date jottings about featured horses in metro racing.

There were nominated horses to follow, as blackbookers, or 'be on me next
time' and a code was used to determine Saturday specials published with the
form in "The Australian".

A phone in service was also commenced.

Most runners were short, short. The Review ceased at issue 576 March 1 1978.
I possess a full suite.

Topics were written by Anthony Scott and Peter P (as the Professional
Punter), Clif,Don McCabe(NZ) and "Poitrel", "Henley","Phar Lap" and
"Bernborough", and some unnamed and uncredited persons.

Jumping Through Hoops was a selection process revealed in the Review.

In a previous run:- If this runner missed by 7 lengths or more, and now

(i)Horses starting from and outside barrier 7, so barrier 7. 8,9, 10 etc

(ii)Horses numbered 7 or less - eg the higher weighted runners, horse 1,
horse 2, horse 3

(iii)Horses priced at 7/1 or less in its next race

If your runner today failed by 7 or more lengths in a previous start and now
passed the test in (i)+(ii) +(iii) then back it in the upcoming race.

Runner followed for two starts.

There were results attributed to an earlier trial, the rules were published
in '76 and the results are shown for '73. They show 22 winners from 27
attempts - amazing.

I ran the rules through Syd/Melb and for May 2019 got 5 runners for 3
winners and a place and no selections anywhere in March/April.

Is the price line clause the real selector and the other sub-sets just
incidental?

cheers

Tony
