Well written piece Len,
Totally agree with you.
"Australian governments have a far more serious gambling addiction than punters."
They also have a far more serious smoking addiction, than smokers.
How can they endorse higher fees, which mean a larger takeout, the odds are getting very close to the pokies in some price bands.
Problem gamblers will see their money disappear faster because the playing field isn't fair.
Winning punters will find it harder to keep their accounts opened, and it's very difficult as it stands!

Subject: [AusRace] POC tax
The Australian reported on the Victorian 8% POC tax: "At almost half the SA level, that was a coup for online players".
Some coup! An infinite increase in a tax from 0% to 8% is hardly a coup. And the people who will pay the tax are bookmakers' customers, not bookmakers, just as surely as GST is paid by buyers, not sellers.
William Hill cut its losses and sold out at a reputed loss of $400m; Luxbet, backed by the huge TAB, went belly-up late last year and closed its doors, so the idea that the bookmakers have a significant "tax dodge" is just a fantasy devised by politicians to justify another grab of our money - Australian governments have a far more serious gambling addiction than punters.
The massive increases in TAB commissions (siphoned off to pay rebates) drove me and others from the TAB; will this POC tax be the straw that will break our backs?
