I'll be happy if they filter my daughter's and all children's internet. Happy to pay, happy to accept a slower response, happy to accept other inconveniences. I really hate to break up the racing carnival flair, but this needs to be looked at. Recently, the Federal Government came up with the "Clean Stream" idea. Nutshelling it, it's basically an internet filtering system that will be compulsory for every Internet Service Provider in Australia. At this point they're saying the end users will be able to choose between filtered feeds and unfiltered feeds, but that could be changed easily, and it'll still cause problems even if you don't take it. What this system will do, for those less technically inclined, is look at every single website you access and then check to see if it contains any content deemed 'unsuitable' by the government. This could be anything, from adult content, to inappropriate language, to the full blown china - come-George Orwell mass blocking. It's not beyond the imagination, either. My school IT technician blocked Google search engine because a minority of students used it as a backdoor to myspace. This greatly inconvieniced students and teachers alike I might add. I don't know about you guys, but I don't want any government beurocrat telling me what I am and am not allowed to view. It's not just the content filtering though. Because ISPs would have to use this system, odds are that the cost will be passed down to the user. also, because you have to wait for the filter to go through your sites and everyone else's sites, your service will probably slow down. Best to stop in it's tracks I think. www.nocleanstream.com has an online petiton you can sign, as well as the adresses, e-mails and phone numbers of the relevant politicians. They don't filter my calls, they don't filter my mail. I'll be damned if I let them filter my internet. Peace out, and happy punting Al. _________________________________________________________________ _______________________________________________ AusRace mailing list AusRace at ausrace.com http://ausrace.com/mailman/listinfo/ausrace
