[AusRace] [AusRace ]A couple of interesting things to ponder

Not an expert here, but I suggest that:
In general:
1. Males will be more aggressive, take more risks
2. Females will listen to the horse more
3. Females will take in and process more efficiently the multitude of things
going on around them during a race
4. Females will have gentler hands - to which some horses may respond
better.
Would be interesting to hear Ric Charlesworth's thoughts on 1 and 3 above in
relation to elite sports-persons. Also Gai Waterhouse's (I once heard her
tell Margaret Throsby that she would not use female jockeys).
In particular:
My wife is a much better rider than I was, but never went as fast as I did.
On the other hand, she never had anything like the propensity to fall off
that I did.
Regards,
John

Not having been a jockey myself, I wonder whether
a) there is any *real* physical difference in the attributes required to
ride a horse, and
b) if there is, whether any slight difference really matters?
I suspect that no jockey could restrain or control a horse that didn't
want to co-operate, so could any slight difference in physical strength
of average-male-jockey vs average-female-jockey really make a difference?
Cheers,
Chris.
